All pieces at Heidi Gem Jewellery are handmade from recycled solid gold and sterling silver.
Each item is lovingly made and intended to be treasured by their recipient. To keep your pieces in excellent condition, it's essential to keep them clean and protect from damage.

We recommend regular cleaning of your favourite, frequently worn pieces of jewellery to keep them looking their best. This will help to keep your pieces in the best condition and prevent the build up of dirt and grime which can cause damage as well as dulling metal and gemstones.

If your item contains stones, you can soak it in a bowl of warm water with a non-abrasive soap and very gently use a soft toothbrush to clean behind the stones (n.b. this method is not suitable for all stones as some can be very porous - please check if your stone is water safe, before soaking in water). Avoid doing this over the sink, in case of dropping items down the plughole! This should be enough to help to bring back the sparkle.

Cleaning Tips by Metal Type

Sterling Silver

Exposure to sunlight and moisture can cause sterling silver to tarnish (darken) over time. Storing your pieces in an airtight container or bag when not being worn, can help to prevent tarnishing as can wearing the piece regularly.

You can use a soft silver cleaning cloth to gently remove tarnish from your silver jewellery pieces. Warm water with a non-abrasive soap can also be used to remove any built up dirt. Avoid the use of abrasive creams as they can leave scratches in the surface of the metal.

Higher carat golds are less likely to tarnish however lower carat golds are an alloy of other metals which may tarnish over time and therefore may need to be cleaned. This can be done in a similar way to sterling silver, with a soft gold polishing cloth.

Again, a soft tooth brush and warm water with a non-abrasive soap can be used to gently clean your gold jewellery.
